It is so sad that when friends that you have made, friendships that you just know could last forever, HAVE to go away.

It is TOO sad.

Happy Birthday JeanBear !!!

Seriously, sometimes one has to think about growing up. It really is not as fun as it seems. I suppose there are MANY things that one can argue that growing up is a lot of fun, but sometimes you have to look at it from the other side. There are so many things that one has to give up, not to mention suffer, or tolerate.

I mean, I must say, life is still great fun. But at the same time, I am very conscious about some things that I must accept even though I do not like it, or disagree with. I know there are people I need to tolerate. I have work that I might feel bored with. There are schedules to be kept, deadlines to be met, expectations to keep up to. Life is tough.

And yet. It is not as if you are able to run away from it all.

It is really up to yourself to find things in life to feel happy about. You have to find ways to cheer yourself up.

I usually run to someone for hugs.

He made a hard turn right into the building. It was almost a year since he was here. Memories came flooding back. Still young and naive then, he had just started adulthood and was here by himself, after doing all the proper research about the best place to go. He tried the side door, it refused to budge. Perhaps times have changed.....

Walking through the front door, he saw several people, people he did not recognise. They seemed happy enough though, making jokes with each other. He kept on walking, based only on his memories of this place. A right here, a left there.....

There, that must be the room. It looked the same as it had last year. Perhaps 12 months was not that long ago. There she was.

She walked up to him, with a furrowed brow. "You are....." she finally asked.

Slightly disappointed, he smiled (a little sadly) and told her his name. Sure it had been a year but surely.....

Her face changed and brightened up considerably.

"When did you become so cute ?" she asked him and smiled. She totally remembered him and prepared to get his stuff for him. As she rummaged beneath the desks, she kept up a stream of small talk, cheerily talking about certain things that she thought would interest him.

His mind was blank....and then he smiled. That was a compliment after all, was it not ? The more he thought about it, the better he felt and the more he was unable to stop himself from grinning. He picked up from where he left of last year and soon they chatted for another 20 minutes, before he got up to go, perhaps forever. Perhaps they shall never meet again. But boy, she had made his day.....

AND I SWEAR>>>> FLATTERY WILL GET YOU EVERYWHERE WITH ME.....

Lol.

Talk about bad luck.

At this rate, I will get so little sleep that tomorrow will pass by in a blur. Just what I need....

Anyway, only good thing was saw RoxBear online and got to wish her a very Happy Birthday !!!
May all your wishes come true this year !!

OK. I think I just made a very big mistake.

We are allowed to wear casual clothes to work on Fridays and jeans are allowed but I have never actually worn jeans on Friday yet since the jeans I usually wear are all banned due to one reason or another (excessive bagginess, wild colours, straps hanging everywhere, faded and patterned). Well, when I woke up, I remembered I had this one dark blue jeans that should be alright. And I fit. Keep in mind it was at the bottom of my denim drawer as it was the oldest pair that I had. I remember I bought it when I was 14. And I bought it in 2 colours and I even remember the price and the place I bought it !!

Anyway, naturally I was happy that it fit and also it was a straight cut, a big difference from the normal baggy jeans that I wear nowadays, so my legs looked thinned. LOOKED. So I decided to wear it to work.

Anyway, now at work, I have realised that this jeans is not really conducive for sitting. Standing and walking is fine.

Well, I have found a single position which is comfortable. Though I really wish today will just go by quickly.

You know you are in love when you smile stupidly. Happily.

I am in love with Sex And The City all over again.

It seems as if I discover it again every time I approach an exam.

I think....

I want a Sex And The City girl.

And the exciting things started to happen and I got overwhelmed. Crap.
I was flipping through RoxBear's pics of her visit to Malaysia and I found a very nice pic and I stole it. Incidentally, that was the shirt she bought for me ! I like the looks of it very much ! Thanks very much RoxBear, it is a very nice shirt and better yet, it LOOKS like a very nice shirt !!

WaynoBear will now be staying over at KiHoBear's place since I am working and will not have time to travel to/fro airport as well as entertain him. Well good enough. MsAngel wants to visit Malaysia late April and is hinting to stay at my place. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Arrghhhhhhhhhhhhh. No. No. Will just have to make up real excuses. Like the fact that I am WORKING ! And besides, I AM NOT INTERESTED. Then ParkyBear will be visiting as well in April. Well. OK. That is pretty exciting. Haha.

And my legs still hurt and feel like jelly from the gym this morning. That is what happens when you have not gone for more than 6 months !! Since I was in Labuan in August, Prince in September and October, on holiday in November, and in Shanghai in December and January. So therefore no gym ! Not to mention any REAL work done in Malaysia.... Hehe. I have to get back into the groove somehow, but it is hard, knowing that the current position will only last into March, where I switch departments, learn for a month in April before taking May off for CFA Level 2 Exams and then spending time in Singapore in June and July. Before I know it, August and September will have flown by, and I will be switching again in October ! And then will be spending November planning for my Melbourne trip in December and then a whole year would have passed again ! The funniest part was that I punched in my age as 22 in the gym for the first time today even though I only have 5 months left as 22. Grrrrr. Feeling the age.

Talking about the trip in December, I was planning to go for 2 weeks = 10 days leave to be taken. But looking at the calendar tells me that there are public holidays on the 11th, 20th and 25th. So if I took 12 days off, I could be in Melbourne from the 8th to the 1st of January 2008 !!! Oooh...Meaning 3 weeks there plus Christmas and New Year !!! Or I could take 10 days and be there from the 6th to the 23rd. Or take only 8 days and be there from the 8th to the 23rd. Or tkae 9 days and be there from the 8th to the 25th ! (Which of course would be dumb as I miss the sales.) Arghh. Choices !!!

It is very tricky planning holidays as one has to keep in mind that one has to save all that leave until December, which can be very hard. It is always tempting to take a few days off whenever friends are visiting, or when one is completely too lazy to work, or to prolong a long weekend. Not to mention the fear that one's manager might have other plans in store for that period of time and therefore one has to plan even further ahead and keep the manager informed of one's plans so as to be able to keep from getting bogged down during that time !

As it is, I currently have 29 days left which can last till we go into March. Bearing in mind I plan to take 10 days off in May, I have 19 days to play with for the rest of the year. I am guessing that June and July will be holiday-free for me since I will be in Singapore. So that leaves March, April, August, September, October and November. Meaning if I go for the super-long holiday in December, it leaves me roughly just a single day for each of those remaining months. Discipline is needed. Wait a minute ! If I do take maybe 2 days off for ParkyBear's visit, that means I will have only 5 days left.

And crap, an email I just received reminded me about my plans to go for the Hong Kong marathon. I have missed the deadline by 2 months and the event is in 2 weeks on the same day that LeeHom is having his concert here in KL (which I also missed). Well, all I can say is that at least I saved a couple more days of holidays and some money by not having to buy airplane ticket and entry fee for the marathon and also not having to buy the concert tickets. There is a bright side to everything !!

I suppose today will just be mostly about doing some petty jobs and waiting for the day to be over so that wil meet up with everyone for a last dinner before everyone flies back to Melbourne. (Jealous).

Going back to work tomorrow and feeling sooooo bleh.

Even if CNY is not really fun, going back to work after holidays is alwyas a bleh.

Bleh.

Had a good time with EugBear, YapBear, ATBear and SahBear last night, just having fun and laughing most of the time. EugBear should be back in Melbourne by now. I wanna be there too. Bleh.

Finally for the final time, have finished all my calculations and I have nearly doubled my assets after working for a year. However, it is depressingly small, not nearly in the millions. Yet. Bleh.

I have run out of books to read. Need to buy some more. But have decided that this year will be all about saving and dieting...sigh. Bleh !

OMG ! Everyone paragraph so far has ended with a bleh !

Bleh.

I HOPE SOMETHING EXCITING AND INTERESTING HAPPENS TOMORROW !!!!!!!!!!

After a very blurry Friday, went for dinner with YapBear, ATBear and EugBear who has got his PR and will be returning to Australia on Tuesday. Then between looking at them playing some computer game, and planning to watch IT, we played some poker and blackjack.

Dumpling making day was as usual except we ended earlier than usual. Dinner with relatives and more dumplings for supper. Is it just me, or is CNY sooooooo boring nowadays? Soooooo boring !!

The only part I look forward to is mahjong.

RoxBear !! Hope you will try again ! :) Do not give up ! And your pictures are fantastic !

So I had a fantastic Valentine's Day Dinner with 6 fantastic ladies.

Venue : Nando's
People Present : SailorJeow, SailorRoz, SailorJoyo, SailorCYT, SailorJap and SailorChill.
Activities : Laugh, Eat, Laugh, Drink, Laugh, Joke, Laugh, Talk, Laugh, Tease, Laugh.
Conclusion : Best Valentine's Day EVER !

It was quite funny though, how when we were walking to the restaurant from office, 90% of the people were in pairs, as if they all just escaped from the ark. There were people queuing outside almost every Westernised eating place, including those providing food that were not delicious. There were also hundreds of people carrying flowers, bears, flowers with bears, and flowery bears. Sometimes if was hard to differentiate between those who were selling and those who received and wanted to show off. There was even a mega bouquet of pink pigs ! Amazing. Sungeiwang and BB Area was filled with young people, mostly from work and from college/university so it was quite cool to watch the parade of fashion as well as couples. Was fun criticising the couples, and saying whether they matched or not, or if they would last for a long time.....

I think some people are smarter now though, that is why many flowers were still unsold by the end of the night ! Many of them looked dead anyway.

I hope everyone else had a fantastic Valentine's !

OK. First thing to report. I have another admirer which I had no idea before. Anyway she wants to call me. I said I was too busy. Arghhhhh. I have had enough of Chinese people for the time being !

Work is really tiring now as well, in a big part due to the stress of traffic. The good thing about Shanghai I have come to realise was that I had zero stress about traffic jams.

Bleh. Sometimes you just cannot win.

Monday, February 12, 2007

After waking up on Saturday, it was just about walking around like a zombie for a few hours before buying a cake for RoxBear from CakeSense. The Raspberry Cream Cheese was quite yummy and not very heavy but RaeBear and I had such a funny time choosing a cake ! Even the attendants in the shop were laughing. We had dinner at New Paris, a place I keep getting confused with Greenview. JessBear, JinBear, SJBear and PLBear were also there. We had quite a good dinner though most of us were thinking about supper at Murni's so personally I felt it was not extra special.

Going back to JinBear's house I got lost and wound up in some Muslim community centre. A dead end. Thankfully, I found my way back after like 30 minutes after everyone. And we opened presents, and took photos and ate cake and played bridge. Then it was Murni's with the naans and then DVDs. Quite normal really. The best part was going back to JinBear's place and playing mahjong until 4 am. Then I collapsed in bed.

RoxBear then left on Sunday. It was quite fun to see her here that sometimes it was quite shocking to think that she had to leave ! Oops. Hope you had lots of fun here and that you can come here again soon. Or maybe all of us can go to HongKong ! Kekeke.

After lunch, CKBear picked me up on Sunday and headed to KeeBear's house for more mahjong. Yay. I love mahjong. But since he had to leave for family dinner, CCBear and KenBear came along when CKBear left. Just in time ! Or else there would have been an interval where no mahjong could be played ! We had dinner in Pandamaran courtesy of Lil Buddha and then back for more Mahjong until about 10 pm.

I cannot believe I have another week of work again.

Quote from KeeWin : "Life is like a hand of mahjong tiles. You never know what you are going to get. Make the best of it."

OMG I only woke up at 2pm and that was also because I had to get my starving mom some lunch !

Went to Malacca with RaeBear, RoxBear and JinBear and because I went there last October, still remembered most of the places and roads even without a map. We started really early arouny 7 in the morning which was really funny since all of us slept really late the night before and were super tired. Anyway to keep from falling asleep we talked and joked and gossiped the whole way and even stopped in Seremban for breakfast where the girls had nasi lemak and I had my big pau ! Then on to Malacca where we first visited the Bee Museum where everyone had free honey and then onwards to the usual Stadhuys-St Paul's-A Famosa. Bit boring to me. The funny part that I remember is when JinBear and I were dancing behind a wall when the harmonica man was playing and the souvenir man was laughing ! Haha. Then later we also went to an exhibition of weird things which was a waste of time and money. Next was the Villa Sentosa which reminded me of the time I was here and I searched in the guestbook for comments by GAVincent and GAEdward. So many good memories of that trip. Finally we went to Jonker to walk and search for some chicken rice balls which we had with some iced drinks. We also had some cendol before deciding to go home. The journey home was also funny as some people fell asleep right away and to keep me awake, they kept on pumping me with drinks, candy floss, dried fruit and other things. We made it home and rested a while before playing mahjong late at night. That was why I slept so much.

But I still believe that I am still paying off sleep debt from Shanghai.

It feels good to be home. So after I met up for karaoke at Neway, (which I must admit was not too shabby and cheap at 50% discount plus the fact that they had pinyin for Japanese songs (not too many songs though)) we walked around 1U before going for Pancakes. Yum. Yum. Then it was to JinBear’s place for some mahjong while DinoBear packed. Then we sent him off to KL Central before proceeding to have dinner at Chillies Bangsar. Too bad DinoBear could not join us but RoxBear made good, finishing almost all of the Triple Play. Haha. Everyone was really full though. Then back for more Mahjong where we finished 3 rounds but shucks could not finish the 4th as I had to work the next day.

Work these 2 days has been sort of alright. Mainly just sorting out all the matters and getting prepared for normality again. Changing the photo of my access card, getting my raise settled, getting to know the new people, reporting my progress to mentor and buddy, setting up to prepare for CFA Level 2, getting to know what has changed, asking about bonus (hehe), as well as the most important part (gossip !!!). Gossip is very important in life as it helps you find out which way the wind is blowing. This will allow you to figure out what you want to do or achieve and what ways you should go about doing it ! Also helps you avoid boo-boos like inviting two warring people to dinner together or total strangers or something like that. Gossip is information and information is knowledge.

KNOWLEDGE = POWER.

Something I believe in. You can never have useless information and sooner or later it might be useful. It could be a trivia quiz, or a game show, or just showing off to friends or how you want to let others perceive you. But you can NEVER have too much information/knowledge. So gossip is important. So long as you are careful to listen and not talk. You do NOT want to be the person who spread the news about MrX’s scandal with his secretary. However you may want to trade this secret with someone else and let them spread it, at the same time gaining more valuable information. Guess why being a spy makes so much money ?

Anyway then on Wednesday had lunch at Heritage Row with JeanBear and then went with RoxBear, JinBear and RaeBear plus my younger sister to Cheras Taman Connaught at night. They have the longest pasar malam in Malaysia there ! I was NOT aware of this fact ! But when I go there, it was REALLY long. Really amazing. Though I will never go there again, it was quite an experience and I do want to suggest to people that this is quite an interesting touristy thing to enjoy. The LONGEST pasar malam in Malaysia. After walking though I was dead tired. So tired that any thought of joining PatBear and KenBear for futsal was thrown out of my head. I am still extremely tired from Shanghai and somehow quite sensitive to sunlight. My eyes must be very tired. Luckily I am on leave on Friday so my weekend will start tonight !!!!!

Received a few very special emails of thanks from people over in Shanghai. So sweet of them. You know they mean it when they say they miss you ! Haha. Sigh. So sweet. Especially when you know you HAVE helped them. It is really nice to think that you have made a difference to people. One of them wrote that I have brought sunlight into their grey life ! OMG…. Can you just picture me as a ray of sunlight ? Awww. They are just so sweet. But sometimes when you stand up for people who have no power they will always remember you. Even if you might be unsuccessful, at least they will remember that you have supported them, spoke up for them and help raise their issues to bigger powers. This is such a good thing. Now I think I can understand why some people can do charity just for the good feelings generated in themselves ! Although it has to be a charity that I really support and not just any old charity. MM. If I become a billionaire some day, I will definitely do charitable acts.

There, you see ! Another do-gooder made in this world. And suddenly the world does not seem so bad any more right ?

Back in Malaysia after two months, the weather did not feel too different. Or am I just lucky that it was not a very sunny day today ?

Unpacking was shit, but luckily most of it was clothes and more clothes so they all needed to be washed anyway. Will be spending my morning cleaning up, unpacking, getting the mail read, some small stuff and see if I will meet up with JeanBear, JinBear and RoxBear. But before that have to make a trip to see the dry cleaners as well as to get a top up card because now my phone is dead.

Flight back was just as comfortable and I spent most of the time sleeping when I was not eating. Seriously, people who say that plane food is not good, just have not been eating food in business class. The food was YUMMY. There was garlic bread with smoked chicken breast as well as some very good satay. Drinks just kept on coming and the choice was great. Only thing was I sat next to this small kid of 8 who yap yap yap all the way. But he was cute. His name was Lucas and his baby brother's name is Marcus. Lol. There were also 2 babies in my row of 7 so there was quite a lot of excitement. I guess it was lucky that I was dead tired from the activities the night before so I could fall asleep quite easily.

On Saturday, after some last minute shopping, most of us plus the boss went for a karaoke at this place called Cashbox. It was my 3rd time. Speaking of which, I sang karaoke about 6 times here so ALMOST once a week. Anyway, I really love cashbox because it has such nice design, and it is more like a 6 star hotel than a karaoke joint. There are wide marble staircases to the rooms, and there is a grand piano with performances. Even the food is fantastic. They have great food as well as instantly prepared food for you, like fried eggs with ham, curried udon, BBQ, Steamboat, Biscuits, Cakes, the choice is endless. It is worth it just to come for the food. So we sang from one to about nine. After which myself and three others went to this little cafe again to play 80 points. It was the same cafe as last time. And if you do not know already, 80 points is a card game played in Shanghai which is a little like bridge. Only with a lot more strategy and skill than bridge I think. We played the whole night until 7 am. Talked and ate some food along the way. After that was sooooo tired but it was so much fun. Call it my new addiction while in Shanghai. Then after I went home still had to pack. Cleaned up the fridge and ate a Magnum for breakfast. But I had to leave behind a bottle of soy sauce, 24 dumplings, 2 oranges, a bottle of Pepsi, 3 apples, half a packet of vermicelli, and 2 Roti Phrata. Also left behind all the hangers and other random stuff I collected.

So that is it. The 2 month Shanghai adventure is finally over. What happens next ? Will be exciting to find out. But I guess I will be satisfied if anything new only happens after CNY. After all, there are lots of people to play mahjong now !!!!

After a last day of work, I said a sad farewell to many colleagues and to my beloved vault. It is sad to think that I might never see these people again but great to have memories of them.

Shanghai is the place to be for the next 5 years. If you need a tour guide you know who to call.

I hate the new Google login. I cannot ever seem to find a way to login ?!??

That is about it for now. Slept late last night and not at all the night before. The annual dinner was a big room filled with people eating. Not much fun at all.

Time to start packing.

Crap. I did pack and the luggages are full.

Then why are there so much stuff still outside !??!?

I have always taken the underdogs side and today it felt good to be hailed a hero by n amounts of interns for standing up to a nasty manager from another department whose actions were totally ridiculous. Anyway, sometimes you can feel really good after doing other people a kind favour, even if I had nothing to do with it in the first place and could just walk away. Maybe someday we will meet again somewhere and then who knows ? At the very least, they will remember someone who cared enough to fight for their rights and hopefully next time will treat their own interns properly ? This manager was a mean old man, who never allowed these interns dinner or taxi home even though he keeps them as late as he can. And he goes home early sometimes. Mean old man !

Tomorrow is Shanghai's annual dinner for the bank. I have absolutely nothing to wear.

Oh and I have another new staff. His name is Stone.

Faints.
